dance styles ballroom & latin dancesport rock'n'roll salsa bachata classes timetable medals venues prices what to wear shoes faq revision notes information about cdc committee etiquette injuries alumni links contact competitions overview reunion match nottingham sheffield sudc ivdc varsity match cuppers inter-college team match questions & answers rules cudt the team news what to wear shoes committee demos sponsorship results curnr the team news history how to join members demos videos results links home quick links : timetable · venues · prices rock 'n' roll classes dancesport the is a non-profit town & gown society. in addition to serving students in the region (from cambridge university but also anglia ruskin, cambridge regional college and the open university), our classes and practices are open for other adult members of the local population who want to dance - and we even have a few non-resident members. if you want to dance with us, make sure you check: what's on the current timetable , where the relevant venue is and that you've brought enough money for the class or practice fee (and also remembered to bring your club membership card if you want the member rate). friday's "general dancing" session is free for anyone to attend but does not include any formal tuition. it's a social dancing occasion. however, it's by far the cheapest way of finding out if dancing might be your thing and hence help you decide whether you want to start going to classes to learn more. announcements we are continuing to close down classes which are no longer being well attended. keep checking here (and the main timetable ) for updates. eg there are now no more ballroom and latin classes with paul or salsa classes on a wednesday but you can still go to the free practice in the cambridge union society squash room on wednesdays even if you can't make it to any of the remaining improvers level classes with other teachers on different evenings. annual general meeting the cdc's agm will be on friday 15th june, in the mdh of the grad pad at 9:30pm after a shorter than usual gd session (from 8:30pm). we need volunteers for most of the club's executive roles as well as ongoing normal committee volunteers to run doors at classes and make tricky decisions about pricing, data-protection, anti-harassment policies etc. without *you*, and *your* help, this non-profit club simply cannot continue to exist. marshall society samba party the marshall society are holding a samba-themed copacabana garden party in st.john's college on saturday 16th june from 6pm to 10pm. they've managed to hire a samba band (since they were not allowed amplified music) but have realised they'd very much like to have some actual samba dancers present to perform a few demonstration dances and try to show some samba steps to the other attendees. so if *you* know your bota fogos from your criss-cross voltas and would like a performer invitation to their party, please contact them via [email protected] . it will probably work best if people apply as pre-arranged couples rather than individuals. free taster sessions this term the cdc is collaborating with the cambridge union society to run some regular events to help students get active and de-stress. there will be a free taster session *every* friday at 5:30pm in the cam.union soc. 's old squash court room. this is at the back of the complex. if you start by going all the way through the 1815 bar, turn left for the toilet block but then go through the blank white door immediately on your right and down a few steps. the entrance to the room will be directly opposite you, across the corridor. you can also get there through the main building entrance by turning left into the ground level corridor and then turning right at the end through a similarly blank white door just before the kitchen area. the taster sessions will cover a wide range of dance styles over the course of the term: salsa, rnr, any of the standard ballroom and latin dances which fit into the space(!) and also some extras such as merengue and line / sequence / party dances. hopefully this eclectic mix will keep things fresh for the whole term as students drop in and out randomly. anyone who wants to study the various dances in greater depth should join our normal paying classes and try to attend those regularly. if you haven't yet started dancing this term, the free taster class is your best chance of catching up with regular classes in time for the may balls. there will be a more formal ballroom and latin beginners class at 6:30pm after the free taster session and we also have the room on wednesday evenings, from 6pm to 8pm, for people to practise by themselves for free. our 8:30pm general dancing session on friday remains a free practice for everyone. -- rnr practice for rnr dancers who want to continue practising in cambridge during this tail end of the term, the best guesses of free spaces you can use are: * tuesday evening in the cambridge union squash room (eg 7:30pm?) * wednesday evening in the cambridge union squash room (after the dancesport) cancellations on june 22nd and 23rd the university centre is holding a wedding that weekend, so the main dining hall will be unavailable on the evening of friday 22nd june for general dancing and there will also be no classes on saturday 23rd june. cuban salsa there will be *no* cuban salsa improvers class this term unless enough people get in touch to confirm that they still *want* the more advanced level; ie after so many dropped out in previous terms. the cuban salsa beginners class will continue to be at 6pm on wednesday as scheduled. -- pre-term varsity dance camp this set of dancesport workshops, on the weekend of 21st and 22nd april, is open to non-competing cdc members too - for £6 per person per day. saturday 21st april in the university sports centre multipurpose room 10:30 - 11:30 = david mallabone workshop 11:30 - 12:30 = supervised latin practice 13:30 - 14:30 = fitness session 14:30 - 15:30 = crystal main workshop 15:30 - 16:30 = supervised ballroom practice sunday 22nd april in parkside school gym (not kelsey kerridge!) 10:00 - 11:00 = jemma girling workshop 11:00 - 12:00 = bruce lait workshop 12:00 - 17:00 = assorted private lessons and practice space -- cuppers this year's intercollegiate dancesport competition, ie cuppers , will be held on sunday 4th march from 5.30pm to 8pm in the multipurpose room studios upstairs in the university sports centre. it's free to enter and spectators are also welcome. further details of individual events should follow or be available on the facebook page. colleges are allowed to combine forces if they don't have enough club members to form a complete team on their own. colleges are also permitted to enter more than 1 team if they have a lot of dancers available. aru may compete as a college in its own right. the town counts as an honorary college for all those dancers in the club who are not affiliated with a specific college. -- free taster session we have a *free* ballroom and latin taster session on friday 20th january from 8:30pm to 9:30pm in the main dining hall of the university centre. this is followed by our usual free practice session, "general dancing". even if you've already started taking regular classes with us, it's a great opportunity for a recap of the basics and for dragging along any friends you'd like to persuade to join you in normal classes. -- freshers fair and freshers week even if you missed us at the cusu freshers fair , you can still come to our free taster sessions in ballroom & latin and rnr. the public ones are: • thursday 5th october at 8:30pm in st.columba's church halls • friday 6th october at 8:30pm in the university centre's main dining hall • saturday 7th october at 5:30pm in st.columba's church halls • sunday 8th october at 10:50am in the university sports centre a 25% membership fee discount is available for
